I’ve recently had the pleasure of working with Michael and Tyler of Wax Surf Co on a custom surfboard. As a new surfer, I sort of assumed that producing surfboards was somewhat robotic. I spent some time with these guys and saw that not only does it take a lot of time to make a board, but the level of craftsmanship is unreal.
They started shaping boards shortly after they learned to surf, because as many people are, they were stoked. They work for an architecture firm by day and night owl as board shapers. The relationship between the form of the board and how it rides a wave has them completely hooked.
